Wow. Just look at this. I put in a request for warranty service on my iPod
and in 5 days I've got a replacement on the way. It'll arrive on Wednesday,
exactly 1 week after I initiated the warranty process. I am incredulous. WTG
Apple!
Will report on the condition of my replacement iPod when it arrives on
Wednesday (woot, this makes TWO free iPods now!)

Today's answer is how to restore missing Standard TCP/IP Port type for adding local printers in Windows XP. It took me quite a few searches to figure this out and I almost gave in and posted to expert's exchange. Still haven't had to!

Nnoooooooooooooooooo! Roasted. Toasted. Burnt to a crisp. What you see is a picture of just ONE of the poor symptoms my iPod is experiencing. Depicted here is my infamous "invisible playlist" problem that I have yet to see anyone else experience. Posts to ipodlounge.com's forums, Apple's support discussion forums and Google searches all show that I am alone on the internet with this problem.
But then the REAL problems began today when my iPod's harddrive started clicking LOUDLY and the iPod began responding verrry sllowwwwllyyyyyy. I would select a song and 15 seeconds later, after copious hd clicking, it would play it. If I fast forwarded in the song, same story. So I took it home and tried to restore it. At first I thought that woudn't happen because the restore program would just appear to lock up. But then it finally came through for me about an hour later after it was finsihed "initializing" and it allowed me to restore my iPod's software slower then it had ever done before. And then when I plugged it into the AC adapter it rebooted THREE times instead of the usual one, and showed the "exclamation mark with folder" error a few more times just to mix things up. A very slow iPod sync later I tried playing more music with it. Still lagging badly and randomly popping back to the main menu in the middle of a song.
Woah is me. But I should have seen this coming-- I've had to restore the sucker nearly a dozen times due to iTunes telling me that it "cannot read the contents of the iPod" and to please use the software updater to restore it.. etc.
So basically my free iPod now is going to cost me the $29.95+tax for shipping and handling to get their more then 6 months but still under the 1 year warranty service. I'm very thankful that its still under that 1 year warranty.. because a $249 non-battery repair job would make my free iPod not so free anymore.
Now its still MOSTLY free. Mostly.
